Montegrappa pens makes many pens that I covet and others that I find over-the-top and are outside the range of my taste. While the shape of this particular pen is the same as some of those that I like, this particular design leaves me lukewarm.
Tchaikovsky And Montegrappa: An Artistic Duo
Montegrappa, the Italy-based pen company that has been crafting fine writing instruments since 1912, is introducing the new Tchaikovsky collection, honoring the famed Russian composer and musical giant, Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky.

…To truly honor the breadth of Tchaikovsky’s work and legacy, two special edition pens have been created. The first comprises 125 fountain pens and 125 rollerball pens in recognition of the number of years since Tchaikovsky’s death. This pen, named the White Swan, is two-tone, with a black resin cap and an ivory white resin barrel. The cap is decorated with a laser-cut engraving of the composer’s portrait, along with his signature, while the barrel—in typical Montegrappa style, with special attention to detail—features an excerpt from the original musical score from “Swan Lake.” The black notes and staff on the barrel offer a beautiful contrast to the light background. The slanted cap crown has a treble clef design, studded with a diamond.
The second variation, a limited edition of 1,840 fountain and rollerball pens representing the year of Tchaikovsky’s birth, is crafted entirely in black resin. Named the Black Swan, its barrel is decorated with musical notes on a staff and the cap is engraved with the composer’s signature.
