Yes, I bought the special edition. And the psychedelic purple special ink too. I mean, it’s The Beatles AND it’s a fountain pen. All you need is love!
Montblanc Remembers The Beatles
Great Characters The Beatles Special Edition.
…
The Great Characters The Beatles collection is available in three variations. Let’s start with The Beatles Special Edition, inspired by the album Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, with its multi-colored striped body evoking the outfits the Beatles wore on the cover. I’m intrigued by the sharpness and drama of the colors created by a new multi-step linear lacquering technique Montblanc is using for the first time on this pen. The shape of the cap top is reminiscent of a microphone, and the cone resembles the button on the mixing table in a recording studio. In a touch of whimsy, the clip features four moustaches, a reference to the facial hair sported by each Beatle at one time or another and often evident in their group portraits in the late 1960s.

The second variation, The Beatles Limited Edition 1969, is based on the album Abbey Road, with meaningful symbols on the white lacquered body of the pen. Alongside the peace symbol on the cap and the silhouette of the Beatles crossing Abbey Road, the cap also refers to the “LMW 28 IF” license plate of the VW depicted on the album’s cover. The Union Jack on the barrel references “Her Majesty,” a featured song.

Finally, The Beatles Limited Edition 88 fountain pen has a solid gold skeletonized cap and barrel and metal inlays decorated with lacquer. British culture inspires the overlays, from the Union Jack to the Beatles’ signatures and portraits. The design of the barrel overlay includes the peace symbol, the Apple Records label and details from the Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band album cover.
And for those special fans of the 1960s, Montblanc is concurrently introducing a special ink and rollerball refills in psychedelic purple, as well as a fabric-covered notebook that features silhouettes of the collection’s namesakes.
