Watchmaker Richard Mille Creates $105,000 Mechanical Fountain Pen

…Writing instruments are not completely off my radar at SIHH, since brands like Montblanc and Cartier —each of whom has a strong reputation in pens—display their watches there. But pens are not typically a topic of conversation nor are they often shown. So as a pen (and watch) lover I was excited to see Richard Mille’s new RMS05 Mechanical Fountain Pen alongside his new timepieces, including the new RM 50-02 ACJ Tourbillon Split Seconds Chronograph and the RM 67-01 Automatic Ultra Flat. The pen, like Richard Mille’s watches, offers strikingly bold aesthetics. It also offers a new take on what it means to be a fountain pen, since it uses a visible mechanical movement to facilitate its utility. (About 50 pieces are slated for production this year and as for now, the price tag is $105,000.)…
