A couple of articles about sales of fountain pens rising. This doesn’t surprise anyone who is apt to be reading this blog, but we do like to meet other fountain pen users in the ‘wild’, and we like to see our favorite manufacturers doing well.
The BBC article, from May 2012, cites a number of sources’ reasons as to why.
The Chicago Tribune article, from January 2016 gives a mixed view but does mention our friend Paul Conterato, as an organizer of the Chicago Pen Show.
…Sales figures are on the up. Parker, which has manufactured fountain pens since 1888, claims a worldwide “resurgence” in the past five years, and rival Lamy says turnover increased by more than 5% in 2011.
Online retailer Amazon says sales so far this year have doubled compared with the same period in 2011. They are four times higher than 2010…
…Retail sales of pens in the United States in 2015, through Nov. 28, were up 5 percent in dollars and 4 percent in the number of units sold, according to NPD Group….
