Namiki Fountain Pen May Fetch at $92,000 in Bonhams Auction
The vintage red-lacquer Namiki pen dates from about 1930 and is estimated at £42,000 to £60,000 at hammer prices.
The writing instrument is the first of its kind to surface on the auction market in more than 20 years. With approximately only 1,500 in existence and almost all of them in private collections, vintage Namiki pens are exceptionally rare. Red Namikis, which are outnumbered by their black counterparts 20:1, are rarer still.
The pen was made by Shogo, one of the Namiki Company’s best artists. Each pen took four to six months to make. Only the very best artists were permitted to work in red lacquer.
